King Arthur Pendragon (commonly known as King Arthur) was a legendary English king. His actual existence is debated, but he is the subject of many medieval legends.

HistoryEdit

The creation of the familiar character of Arthur is attributed to Geoffrey of Monmouth, in his book Historia Regus Brittaniae (History of the Kings of Britain). However, he was mentioned in other stories long before that. Later works were naturally influenced in some way by Geoffrey's book.

LegendsEdit

One of the most famous Arthurian legends is that of the Knights of the Round Table, many of whom spawned legends of their own. Another well-known legend is how he acquired his magic sword Excalibur by drawing it from a stone. (Some variations read that he took it from a hand that reached out of the middle of a lake.)
